| Fort William's lochside is one of it's main assets. Unfortunately,
the town suffers a bit from decisions made by former Town Planners
and The Scottish Office who built a dual carriageway between
the
town centre and the loch side. Seems rather stupid nowadays, but
that's life!
The main A82 Glasgow to Inverness trunk road runs
along the lochside which takes traffic away from Fort William's
pedestrianised High Street, but this also makes it less than ideal
to gain access to the loch.
There
are proposals to develop the waterfront area, which would make
Fort William one of the UK's premier destinations with possible
new land reclamation, new buildings, an art gallery perhaps, a
small marina for visiting yachts - all very exciting to consider.
Most residents and business people recognise a new look to Fort
William's waterfront is vital and crucial to the future development
of this
fabulous
Highland
town.
Visitors today can easily enjoy pleasant lochside walks and Souter's
Lass departs from the small pier for trips down Loch Linnhe and Loch
Eil.
