| No visit to Lochaber would be complete without a Highland
Malt or a cask conditioned ale. Better still a Lochaber-brewed
cask conditioned ale!
Fort William and Lochaber used to be a desert as far as real ale
is concerned - but no longer. Today a growing number of good pubs
stock a selection of Lochaber, Highland, Scottish and English brewed
ales.
Atlas Brewery produces a great range of beers brewed in Kinlochleven.
Their Latitude 3.6 is a superb session ale.
The current best pub in Fort William for looking after and serving
cask conditioned ale is Nevisport Bar and a close
second is The Grog and Gruel. Outwith Fort William
we recommend The Stronlossit Inn and The Clachaig Inn in Glencoe.
Other pubs, hotels and Inns selling at least one real ale include
the Ben Nevis Hotel, Ben Nevis Bar and the Ben Nevis Inn, The Tail
Race.
We'll do our best to keep this list up to date, but please also check
out the A-Z Directory for local pubs selling real ale.
Atlas Brewery welcomes visitors in the summer -
preferably with a phone call first. On Skye the Isle of Skye
Brewery brews several
nice ales - some which are often available in Lochaber. The
Cairngorm Brewery, The Black Isle Brewery and The
Orkney Brewery produce beers
all worth looking out for. Atlas Brewery sells two of its beers in
8 pint mini kegs which are great to take home or consume during your
self-catering holiday.
