| If you are interested in climbing Ben Nevis, Glencoe, Creag
Mheagdh or any other local mountains there are a number of local
mountain guiding
businesses operating in the area. You can find these in our Lochaber Business
Directory or from one of the Banner WebAdverts links above.
The Lochaber mountains are very accessible - particularly Ben Nevis
and Aonach Mor. Walkers and climbers who are inexperienced should
BE WARNED that these Scottish mountains can be killers. Each year
a number of visitors to the Fort William and Glencoe mountains
have serious and sadly, sometimes FATAL accidents. Although our
mountains are not as high as those in the Alpine regions of Europe,
they are no less dangerous places.
If you are unsure of your own experience and skills, you might
benefit from, and enjoy a day out on our mountains with a qualified
local mountain guide, who quite often can add
so much more to your overall experience to Lochaber.
Nevis Partnership works to advise and inform everyone who wishes
to discover the pleasure of walking and climbing on these mountains.
The Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team are the busiest team in Scotland,
and our local Police are very much involved in the process of search
and rescue.
Visit Fort William Ltd, the owners of this website
operate a professional WebCam from Tomacharich. This WebCam rotates
through a variety
of different views of Ben Nevis, its north face, the top Gondola
station on Aonach Mor and a general wide angle view of the Nevis
Range of mountains which includes Aonach Mor, Carn Mor Dearg and
Ben Nevis. The camera operates during the hours of daylight (GMT/BST)
and is a good guide to current local conditions on the mountains.
You can stay at the house where the WebCam operates from - the
people run a B &
B and self-catering business.
