Learn to sail a dinghy in Lochaber
Learn to sail in Fort William, Glencoe and Arisaig through our local sailing clubs in Lochaber. In Fort Wiliam, Lochaber Yacht Club has a very active sailing club and each year they provide a fully organised Learn to Sail course for local people, who join the club and pay a small about for their sailing course.
In Glencoe, Glencoe Boat Club members can also learn to sail with the help of volunteer members who are RYA sailing instructors.
Out on the west coast at Arisaig, a recently formed sailing club is helping locals to learn to sail and in doing so, are developing an active, new, amateur sports club.
In September 2009, Lochaber Yacht Club organised and provided a structured 4-day sailing course for 9 students who are have recently come to Fort William to study at Lochaber College UHI, and be part of the Degree level, 3-year outdoor adventure course. The College now have students who can sail and over the next year or two, they will be learning more with a view to becoming sailing instructors, which is a part of their overall course syllabus.
Almost anyone can learn to sail and most people enjoy the experience, although like other sports, sailing is not for everyone. Living in a beautiful area with water almost everywhere, sailing and watersports make it an easy choice for their active sport.
If you can already sail and would like to bring a class of dinghies for a travellers series, Lochaber Yacht Club would be interested to hear from you.
